I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The location was convenient, just a short walk from the bus terminal, and the onsen was a great way to unwind. However, the overall value for the price paid was disappointing due to the outdated facilities and some service issues. I feel like I expected more for what I paid, especially in terms of room amenities and cleanliness.

Rooms
5.0
The room I stayed in was quite cramped, with only enough space for the beds and a foul odor lingering. There was no bathroom, only a toilet, which felt very inconvenient, plus the decor was quite outdated and had visible damage.
Service
5.0
While the staff was courteous, there was an awkwardness in communication that detracted from the overall service experience. They seemed more comfortable with pleasant interactions than addressing concerns.
Location
7.0
The hotel is well-located close to the bus terminal, making it easy to get to. However, there isn't much to do around the area, which limits options for activities.
Dining
5.0
The dining experience was standard and lacked variety, with some dishes being below expectations. The breakfast options were limited and didn't match the price point.
Facilities
5.0
The onsen facilities were decent and provided a nice experience. However, the overall condition of the hotel felt neglected, which wasn't what I anticipated given the price.

My stay at Hotel Grand Toya was quite unique, offering both beautiful views and traditional Japanese experience. The rooms, while a bit cramped, overlooked Lake Toya and had their own charm. The onsen facilities were truly a highlight, providing a fantastic experience. However, the hotel is quite dated, and there was no breakfast service available, which was a letdown for the overall experience.

Rooms
7.0
The rooms were traditional Japanese style, a bit cramped but with lovely views of Lake Toya, especially during the fireworks. They had large windows that enhanced the experience.
Service

The staff were polite and very helpful, providing clear guidance on hotel regulations and local attractions.
Location
9.0
The location is fantastic, just a short walk from the Toyako Onsen bus station, making it convenient to explore the area. The view of the lake, particularly for the fireworks, was a real bonus.
Dining
5.0
Unfortunately, the hotel does not serve breakfast, which was disappointing given its scenic views. There are nearby dining options, but it's something to consider.
Facilities

The onsen facilities were excellent, with both indoor and outdoor baths. The outdoor onsen offered a relaxing experience with natural hot spring water.

6.8/10

My stay at the hotel was a mixed experience. On one hand, it offered stunning views of Lake Toya and the outdoor onsen was definitely a highlight, providing a relaxing soak amidst beautiful scenery. However, the reception service was disappointing, with a rude staff member who made check-in unpleasant. Also, the lobby had a smoky odor that really detracted from the overall experience. While the price was reasonable, I expected better service for the value I paid.

Rooms

The rooms were clean but a bit cramped, especially with the futons laid out. The lovely lake view was a significant plus.
Service

The staff was courteous and made an effort to help with our futons upon check-in, but the service experience was overshadowed by one rude front desk employee.
Location

The location is fantastic, right next to the lake and just a short walk to the bus terminal, perfect for catching the fireworks display.
Dining

The dining options were rather subpar, leaving much to be desired in terms of quality and variety.

The hotel offers a unique experience with its traditional ryokan style, showcasing tatami rooms and beautiful lake views. The onsen facilities are excellent, providing a relaxing atmosphere with natural volcanic water. However, the rooms can feel quite dated and lack some modern conveniences, which isn't ideal for longer stays. The service can vary, with some interactions being less friendly, and the location, while close to the bus station, has limited activities nearby.

Rooms
6.0
Our room followed the traditional ryokan style with tatami mats, and while it was spacious, the décor felt a bit outdated. It would have been better if there were more modern amenities.
Service
5.0
The service was hit or miss; while some staff were helpful, others did not seem very welcoming, which made communication difficult at times.
Location
8.0
The location is very convenient, just a short walk from the bus terminal and right by the lake, offering lovely views.
Dining

We did not dine at the hotel, but there are convenient options around. The onsen experience was delightful, but the dining facilities were not highlighted.
Facilities

The onsen facilities were a definite highlight, providing a great place to relax after a long day. However, the lack of privacy in the bathrooms could be improved.

Hotel Grand Toya offers a unique ryokan experience near Lake Toya, with beautiful outdoor onsen facilities that are a major highlight. The location is convenient, just a short walk from the bus terminal, but the rooms are quite cramped and the smell can be unpleasant. While the staff are helpful, the communication barrier may be a challenge for some. Overall, it’s a decent place if you’re looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation, but it might not be ideal for larger groups or those seeking more space.

Rooms
5.0
The rooms are quite small for four people and can feel cramped, especially with futons laid out. There’s an odd smell in the rooms, and leaving the window open invites midges inside.
Service
7.0
The staff were friendly and accommodating, personally setting up our futons when we arrived. However, the language barrier made some interactions amusing but also a bit frustrating.
Location
9.0
The location is very convenient, just a 2-minute walk from the Toyako Bus Terminal, which makes it easy to access other attractions.
Dining
6.0
Dining options were decent but not highlighted as a standout feature of the stay.
Facilities
9.0
The onsen facilities were excellent, with both indoor and outdoor options that are quite relaxing and enjoyable.
